You might have grown up on lunchables, gushers and squeezit, never missed a shot, and turned out just fine. Or at least the health problems didn’t start showing up until later. But the burden of harmful fats, toxic additives, unnatural light, chemicals, and radiation exposure is far greater for a kid being raised today.

In this world, you have to be a rebel to stay healthy.

Things CHANGED after the fall.

That’s why we’re not meant to try to recreate the garden. To flee from sin, yes, but not to try to mimic what life was like in a fundamentally different world.

Today, walking around naked and unashamed… would be a sin.

And eating a vegan diet will slowly destroy your health while failing to achieve any of the environmental or animal welfare objectives it is promoted for.

Animal nutrients and protein are vital for your health. Possibly because of the adaptation of plants to scarcity in the fallen world, plant defenses prevent us from getting all the micro and macronutrients we need.

Like a predator that would have had an entirely different
body before the fall, our digestive systems are adapted to digesting animal foods.

Our culture is so obsessed with erasing differences between men and women that people will find it offensive to even identify certain tasks and roles as inherently feminine.

But the Bible tells women to be keepers of their homes (Titus 2). Women are exhorted for bearing children (1 Timoth 2:15).

Differences between men and women are glorious and to be embraced. A culture that rejects God tries to erase them. God’s design is good for us, and these studies are just some scientific evidence.

Anecdotally, I have known so many women personally who were not able to get pregnant until they quit their job. I believe the reason it’s so common for women to struggle to get pregnant with their first but then conceive subsequent children more easily is that in mothering the first child, they are naturally taking on more feminine roles.

Increased testosterone in women negatively impacts other hormones and fertility. Other studies show that even just how feminine a woman perceived herself is indicative of her progesterone levels.

What does a killer’s facial features reveal about his motives?

This physiognomy analysis of Charlie Kirk’s killer is fascinating.

Physiognomy is an ancient practice of analyzing character and personality traits based on facial features and other physical characteristics.

While modern science says it’s “discredited” there is solid scientific proof for some of the things mentioned in this post. For example, check out he last slide- this scientific article titled “The slant of the forehead as a craniofacial feature of impulsiveness” concludes that “The angle of inclination of the forehead was significantly associated with self-reported impulsiveness in this sample of traffic violators.”

Much of it may be speculation, and you don’t have to take all of it as 100% fact (I’m not telling you to stop side-sleeping by the way... I’m not sure what all that’s about), but the main point here is that health has important implications for behavior.

Does this explain all of Charlie Kirk’s killer’s behavior? No. Does it let him off the hook for any of his hatred and evil? Absolutely not. If we’ve learned anything new in the last few days it is that there are tens of thousands of leftists who wish their political opponents dead. All that night be standing between them and action is the decision making that capacity that tells them there would be consequences.

Wha we know about the killer is that he spent a lot of time online and had seemingly done so from a young age. This means time looking an LED, blue-light computer screen instead of time outdoors in the sun. He most likely had the standard, nutrient-deficient diet of most people his age.

Nutrition is not just about feeling good, preventing or healing from disease. It’s much more. When we neglect the food and environment God created for us to thrive with, there are far-reaching effects.

How much violence motivated or influenced by trans ideology do we have to accept before our culture stops celebrating this God-despising mental issue?

If you are only going to make one food at home from scratch, this should be it!

Pre-made, store-bought foods containing flour are a MINEFIELD!

It’s no wonder people go on gluten free diets and see so many improvements- you don’t even need a gluten sensitivity to benefit from cutting wheat out of your diet, when that wheat is coming from foods in a grocery store!

You can use the conventional medical system for good. They do a lot of good things and there are many very capable, good people that are part of it. Use it for the benefit of you and your family, I’m not even saying that can’t include vaccines, just understand what their top priorities and motives are so they can’t control you.

Clips from The Mercola Tapes (warning: a little creepy): leaked recorded video calls from within Mercola’s company reveal that he has spent a couple hours each day on video calls with his Medium, self described physic Christopher Johnson who goes by the name Kai Clay. Johnson has worked for many large companies and also provided guidance to the “father of integrative medicine” Dr. Andrew Weil.

The videos show Mercola consulting Johnson and the spirit entity “Bahlon” for all the direction of his company, including a recent decision to fire top executives of his company, including his sister, because of their Catholic faith. The former employees are now suing the company for religious discrimination.

The Mercola tapes are being used to discredit Mercola for his alternative and anti-vax views, which is annoying, but they reveal an important reminder for Christians: health and wellness is not spiritually neutral. If we are not making this domain Christian and making sure our conclusions align with a biblical worldview, it is likely fundamentally evolutionary, humanist, or could even be coming straight from demons. And this is not a problem unique to alternative medicine, there is no reason “conventional” medicine is exempt.

When you’re told that evolution, or the Big Bang, or anything at odds with scripture is scientifically true, know that it is really the most reasonable scientific conclusion given the presupposition that anything supernatural, including God, cannot exist.

Biblical nutrition makes full use of the scientific method, but rejects scientism.

Health and wellness are not spiritually neutral. If Christians ignore this topic, we will be co-opted by evil, anti-Christian forces.

Calling this “bioethics” is top-tier irony.

Christians’ understanding of sin should give them a healthy distrust of government: exhibit A.

(Distrust of government here doesn’t mean neglecting submission to civil authority when that is the right thing to do, it means not blindly eating conventionally produced crops believing that if the chemicals sprayed on them are government approved they must be safe).

FYI many pesticides can be removed by soaking produce in baking soda for 12-15 minutes and then rinsing, but it doesn’t remove everything, so buying organic, or better- locally or regeneratively produced where you are familiar with the farming practices used- is a good idea whenever possible, especially for thin-skinned fruits and vegetables and grains.

I’ve approached a handful of churches at this point that I attended at different times about organizing women’s cooking or nutrition events, and they’ve all declined.

It seemed that nutrition was too “practical” or “controversial”, even though it seems to fit so well into the encouragement in Titus 2 for “older women... to teach what is good, and so train the young women to... be self-controlled, pure, working at home...”

One of these churches went on to hold a church-wide Daniel fast shortly afterwards, and if you’ve followed my content for very long, you know how I feel about those...

The reality is that most modern churches are hesitant about engaging topics that are not spiritual or “gospel issues”. They are concerned about being legalistic or dissuading unbelievers from attending church, but this approach ends up with an uncomfortable resemblance to Gnosticism. Remember, demons are spiritual. Spiritual vs physical is a false distinction between good and evil.

Talking about nutrition isn’t legalism. Legalism is creating commands where God has not, or teaching conformity to any standard other than faith a condition for salvation.

This is why I have been so encouraged to learn about optimistic eschatology. The most common, modern approach to eschatology (study of end times) is pessimistic, dispensational premillennialism. But this was not the most common view throughout church history. In fact, dispensationalism is essentially an entirely modern invention.

What this means and why it matters is that dispensationalism teaches that the world is ending very soon and it will only get worse until then. If this is true, it makes sense to care little about the things of this world. Why rearrange deck chairs on the Titanic?

Food is not spiritually neutral. You defy God’s created roles for men and women, try to create an androgenous society and tell women that their glory is found in becoming men, and you also end up worshiping government and facing disease.

I never identified myself as a “feminist” but I didn’t realize how much I was still bought into the culture.

Studies have shown that being in a male environment creates a lot of stress for women, and adapting to male roles (like wielding power in a workplace) increases testosterone and lowers progesterone, so it’s no surprise that women pursuing the kind of careers they were told would be fulfilling and worthwhile experience so much infertility and dissatisfaction.

I can’t tell you how many successful women (by the world’s standards) I know who struggle with infertility or tell me they wished they could be a stay at home mom but they are single or unable to leave their career because of military service contracts or student loans.

We were very blessed to find NaPro fertility doctors who did extensive testing and helped address root causes of infertility for me, allowing me to get pregnant with medications and supplements. They don’t do IVF or IUIs. I recommend them to everyone I know dealing with infertility.

The women who I think have it made now are the ones who got married at 20 and now have 6+ kids at my age. I will always wish that could have been me, but God has been far more gracious than I deserve bringing me to where I am now. He truly does work it all out for good for those who love Him.

If we think our faith is irrelevant to health, then we will not seek God in the midst of disease.

Most Christians think of praying for health, but I think there can be much for to it than this.

When we go to food and medicine for solutions, are we looking to God’s Word and created order to guide us?

I listened to a group of moms recently as they shared about their weekends. One talked about how Friday night dinner had set off a chain of events that soured the family’s whole weekend. She and her husband told their young daughter she needed to eat some vegetables with dinner. When she refused, discipline ensued, which led to a rough night, poor sleep, and canceled events the family had planned for the rest of the weekend. This kind of experience is common. Parents seem to expect that an important part of parenting is enforcing rules about what their children will eat and how much.

We’ve been led to believe that left to their own choices, kids would eat nothing but candy and bread.

Research shows it’s just not true.

This doesn’t have anything to do with discipline, obedience, or self-control. It just means that food may not HAVE to be another battle we fight with our children.

Remember that the only foods Davis offered the children were whole, nutritious foods, not highly-palatable processed foods. And how do today’s highly-palatable pre-made options compare to what was available in the 1920s? Letting children (or yourself) follow their intuition and make their own choices must be done in the context of high-quality foods to lead to a healthy diet. There is still plenty of discernment and discipline that goes into eating well. There also must be ample options. Children may not meet their protein requirements if the only options are dry chicken breast or boiled eggs that they just don’t like.

The most common battle parents fight is getting kids to eat vegetables, but there may be good reasons children have aversions to them. If not well-prepared, true vegetables (leaves and stems) contain plant defense chemicals that can irritate the digestive system and bind to other nutrients, preventing their absorption. Animal products and fruits are easier digested option that are just as nutritious if not more so.

I talk about biblical nutrition because:
-Christians are unhealthy and looking for answers
-The Bible and natural revelation are sufficient to help us answer those questions, better than false worldviews and the incomplete field of nutrition science alone

My biblical approach to nutrition is to start with the foundation that we are not animals. We were set apart from the beginning with the commission to have God glorifying dominion over creation. That God made us, his creation, and our appetites well, and that while health is not a guarantee or the point of faith and disease is part of our fallen world, health is the normal default for God’s creation. And that the Bible can speak specifically about some of the details of nutrition.

I die a little every time I hear a woman talk about making her husband eat Meatless Mondays.

The main message I am trying to convey is that women shouldn’t be nagging men about their health. It’s not the behavior we want to cultivate as Godly women, it’s based on false premises of nutrition, and it’s just an unnecessary approach.

And to be clear, red meat and saturated fat play vital roles in the health of men AND women.

Husbands may have worthwhile reservations about spending extra money on higher-quality foods, but the most impactful things you can do to improve your diet aren’t things that cost more: cooking from scratch, swapping seed oils for animal fats, and traditional preparation methods, if anything, save money (you can render your own beef tallow for as little as free). Buying organic/grass-fed/raw milk is great, but they are secondary concerns to the basics.

I never intend to try to counsel men on their responsibilities to protect their families’ health. That’s not my domain. But it’s why I love what @beregenerated is going: men encouraging men in this pursuit. Their podcast Be Regenerated is one of the only ones I know of dedicated to the topic of Biblical health and nutrition.

Food companies and restaurants do not cook the same way you do at home, even if they market themselves, or genuinely try, to provide healthier options.”

Shelf-stability must be a priority.

Foods have to *look* appealing.

They are packaged in plastic.

People cook with far more healthy fats than restaurants and food companies generally do.

Costs must be cut to compete with other options. Even if an option is advertised as “organic” or “seed oil” free, its formulation usually only focuses on that one benefit. They aren’t going to spend extra money using high-quality filtered water, top-quality ingredients all around, better packaging, etc, if they can’t advertise it and get their money for it.

But most of all, these companies do not have the best interests of you and your family at heart the way only you can.

Are all pre-made foods and restaurants foods bad? Definitely not. There are genuinely better and good options out there. There is nothing wrong with these businesses operating for a profit. That motivation is what encourages them to make more good options and we demand more of it.

The important takeaway is that the best, first step to an all-around healthy diet is not cutting out a certain food or macronutrient, it’s just working towards making more of your own foods yourself.

What we’re talking about isn’t fear-mongering.

You don’t have to “know better, do better”.

Make the decision that’s right for you, but make it an informed decision and accept the costs or risks of whatever you choose.

Most likely, your parents were doing the best they knew how. But how many of us look back now and wish we had eaten differently and been protected from more exposures during our childhood?

Many of us are working hard now to undo years of damage done by “normal” foods, “normal” chemicals, and “normal” medical procedures.

The Bible tells us to leave an inheritance for our children and our children’s children. What value is there in applying this instruction about wealth to health as well? It is well known that toxins and nutrient deficiencies accumulate over generations. What you are doing now to care for your family’s health has impacts for generations.

I long for the day the wolf will lie down with the lamb and the lion will eat straw like the ox (Isaiah 11), but that is not the reality of the world we live in, this side of heaven.

Death is the reality of the world we live in. A wolf must eat animals to survive. A lion cannot subsist on straw, and neither can you.

Promoting a vegan or vegetarian diet for animal welfare or the environment is the same logic as promoting socialism for helping the poor. It doesn’t work because of the reality of sin.

In our fallen world, the physiology of plants and animals and humans has been fundamentally altered to create the reality that death is required for life.

Trying to avoid it only brings death, whether through the slow decline of our health, or through unintentional deaths we don’t see, like all the small animals that die in the process of plant agriculture.

Veganism and vegetarianism have good ideals, but they ignore the reality of sin and therefore mislead people. It’s trying to solve the problems of son with our own solutions instead of God’s.

I hope it’s abundantly clear that none of these issues are morally neutral.
Godless forces want women to reject gender roles, the commands in Titus 2, and children to try to do all the same things men do instead. Premade foods are an essential part of this, or else someone would have to stay home and cook. Improving food quality necessarily means rejecting pre-made foods for scratch cooking, to some degree. And so people do whatever they can to discredit it.

I met a young farmer at the recent @godsgoodtable conference who made this analogy.

I’ve never been waiting for solutions to come from the government, but I’m excited about what is happening.

This is how we’re living as healthy as possible while living in our camper!

It’s only 19 feet, so very small for a camper, especially for living in, but we needed one I was comfortable driving with because we moved into here when my husband deployed for six months to Qatar last year. Then we’ve been in here as he’s transitioned out of the Air Force and started a job flying for UPS!

So far we’ve driven from New Jersey to Montana (via Florida… not the short route), around the southwest and Montana, back to New Jersey, back to Montana, to Virginia for the @godsgoodtable conference, Ohio for the @seekingwholehealthconf and now Louisville Kentucky, where my husband is in his initial training with UPS right now. Tomorrow we’ll be heading to Michigan for @mittenhomesteaders ! Then back to Montana, and later this summer, to Alaska, where we will be living next and plan to move into a house again!

Idolatry is a real sin. Understand what idolatry really is and isn’t. Make sure you are not making your pursuit of health an idol. Then go and pursue excellence with confidence and don’t listen to the naysayers. They are often content to let their beliefs and health be dictated by the rest of the world.

This is idealistic, but it’s an ideal that a righteous government could aim for.

Of course it would be impossible to fully assign the costs of industrial agriculture to their source (we can’t know what all the costs are or where they come from, especially when they crop up so far down the road and so far from the source), but it would be a righteous endeavor to figure it out as much as possible.

Could a government so influenced by industry and financial interests be trusted to do this effectively? Probably not, at least not well, but if it operated fundamentally with this goal for executing justice, it would only help.

I pose this mainly as an alternative to show that Christians do not to think that more government subsidies or regulations (or just shifted subsidies and regulations) is the only hope for achieving better creation stewardship and human health. Realistically, these shifts will happen from grassroots movements as consumers demand it more. And getting government out of the way of food regulation is essential no matter what.

A Christ-less pursuit of health and wellness will end up misleading people not only physically but spiritually.

Many Christians follow this guy. And he says you can be a Christian and follow his new religion!

Was Bryan Johnson’s Mormon upbringing any piece of what got him here?

A Christian pursuit of health and wellness not only points us to enjoying God’s gifts by respecting and exercising good dominos over creation, but it reminds us that our earthly bodies are not eternal and we can hope in eternity with God in heaven.

In 1958, the FDA created provisions for food additives that were “Generally Recognized as Safe” to be used in food without FDA review and approval.

Foods could be considered GRAS based on history of use or the nature of the substance or its use. The intention was not the waste the FDA’s time studying “additives” like vinegar and baking soda.

But the provisions created a scenario where companies decide for themselves if a food additive meets the standard of GRAS. The FDA created a voluntary program where companies can submit their safety assessments for FDA review, but they can withdraw their information at any time and have no legal obligation to heed the FDA’s opinion.

The FDA can step in and require a review if the additive clearly doesn’t meet the GRAS standards or enough outside pressure warrants it, but of the 10,000 food additives currently used in food, over a 1,000 have made their way through the GRAS loophole.

There are serious long-term and short-term concerns about the effect of food additives on behavior, digestive health, cancer rates, and much more.

Food additives may be the main reason that there is no replacement for home cooking. You quite simply do not use the preservatives, colors, texture enhancers, and packaging that food companies and even restaurants do.

Culture presents a false dichotomy between “healthy” or “enjoyable”.

Especially in the alternative health space, many foods gets labeled as inherently “bad”: gluten and therefore bread, vegetables, grains, dairy, pork….

“Choose the healthy option or treat yourself”.

“Never eat ____ food”.

But these are all foods we CAN enjoy in a healthy diet.

In the context of God-given foods, procured and prepared with respect for creation and by exercising glorifying dominion over it, our appetites are meant to point us to foods that are good for us, among all kinds of foods.

Let’s not forget the most direct instruction in the Bible about what will keep us healthy and give us long life- honoring older generations!

“Do not move an ancient boundary stone set up by your ancestors” Proverbs 22:28

It was out of pride that we thought new food technology was better than what we could learn from our ancestors and ignored it. Now we are reaping the consequences.

A healthy diet requires going back to the fats, meats, and preparation methods used by generations before us.

The government can never save us, but God has been more gracious to us than we deserve to appoint someone who may help us protect ourselves and our families.

Our health will always be first and foremost our own responsibility. No one, especially the government, loves our families the way we can. We cannot and should not expect the government to look out for our health. The government does not have a good track with it and RFK Jr is not going to be able to reverse all the deep rooted problems with industry ties and ulterior motives.

But let’s pray that he is able to make the changes he wants to because it would be an incredible blessing to see changes in some of the things we cannot control: less exposure to agriculture chemicals, less toxins in water, less EMF radiation, less having to navigate avoiding foods with food dyes and harmful additives, more transparency on medical treatment risks, and more.

“But it’s a treat!” “Live a little!” The reason we ignore the health aspect of gifts of other treats is that our culture has bought into a false dichotomy of ‘healthy’ or ‘enjoyable’. As Christians, we need to aggressively reject this.

God did not make a mistake when He made food and our appetites, to lead us into disease or temptation with our palates. When we read His book of nature and apply glorifying dominion over it, we can take great pleasure in food without compromising our health.

A “healthy” treat is not a fat-free, sugar-free cake made of tofu. What I’m talking about is homemade cookies made with real butter, no store-bought cookies additives and food dyes, and other high-quality ingredients. An accurate understanding of nutrition is crucial here.

Mark 12:31: “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Carbs and sugar is a controversial topic. There’s a lot of reasons people experience benefits when they cut them out, but it’s not that carbs are inherently harmful.

Why do you think God gave us such a strong appetite for carbs?

Of course there are types of carbs that are more beneficial and types that are more harmful, and times that they are more beneficial to eat, and times they are not.

Right now I am working on the chapter of my book all about sugar and carbs. It reflects the most soul searching, working through questions, and openness to questioning my beliefs of any topic I’ve tackled so far in this book. I look forward to sharing it with you.

Make decisions based on facts, not what the media and advertising tells you. Palm oil is the perfect example of a nutrition dogma that is based on media and advertising. I want people to think for themselves, forming their beliefs about food based on facts and their Biblical worldview.

Rainforest environmentalism that became a trend in the 80’s paved the way for a big media outrage about palm oil production killing orangutangs. Then people thought it was unhealthy because of its high saturated fat content. Now food labels often advertise “no palm oil” and people are led to think this is a good thing.

Unfortunately, when palm oil is removed from pre-made foods, it’s almost always replaced with seed oils, which are high in oxidized, damaged polyunsaturated fats contributing to inflammation and every known chronic disease and are likely WORSE for the environment.

Palm oil is not a seed oil, it’s a fruit oil, and only about 10% polyunsaturated fat. Palm kernel oil is a seed oil as it comes from the seed of the palm fruit, but as it’s a tropical plant, it’s also very low in polyunsaturated fats- only about 2-3%!

Seed oil production likely does more environmental damage and kills more animals than palm oil production, it’s just never gotten big media coverage.

Because of the backlash, a lot of palm oil is ethically harvested now, which you can see advertised on a lot of labels for foods that contain it.

Is palm oil the best fat you could eat? No, animal fats like butter and tallow are lower in polyunsaturated fats and less processed. For a plant oil, coconut oil is better. But of all the fat sources out there, palm oil is high on the list of healthiest options.

Your identity should be a child of God, a God who is good.

One of the things I’m always trying to get across is that my approach to nutrition is not just tweaked versions of some other dietary philosophies.

It is fundamentally different in one of the foundational, modern assumptions of health and nutrition: that we must deny ourselves and practice constant self-control to be healthy.

There is of course, an element of truth to this, and a whole discussion of how we got to this point and how we parse out the good from the bad is much longer than I can get across in one social media post, but we must start by understanding that God did not make a mistake when He created us and food. He did not fundamentally create our appetites to mislead us, test us, or make us suffer.

Anyone else think it’s sad when a mom goes to great effort researching, procuring healthy food, and cooking to keep her family healthy, and they all think that all her work is just a fun hobby?

My previous church recently did a sermon series that touched on health and diet. The pastor is pretty health conscious and active, which is great to see. But the pastor only talked about his green juices and organized a sugar cleanse members could take part in. Some people also did a Daniel fast. (If you’ve seen many of my posts… you know how I feel about Daniel fasts…)

When churches try to stick to just “conventional” approaches to health like this, they’re missing out on a lot of potential, and may be even promoting an approach that is counterproductive.

Christians need to approach the topic of health and nutrition head on and apply their biblical worldview to questioning conventional narratives. When we do, we will find there is so much more to it than just restricting some foods temporarily.

Egg nog should be a a superfood: raw milk, egg yolk, maple syrup, nutmeg.

Instead, store bought egg nog replaces eggs with artificial additives to enhance texture and food dye to make the yellow egg color, low-fat pasteurized homogenized milk, and other junk.

“It’s Christmas! Indulge a little!” … is a completely unnecessary attitude.

When you realize that God made all of our appetites for a reason, to draw us to nourishing, enjoyable food and not to mislead us, you see that all the foods we crave and enjoy can be very healthy when made with high-quality ingredients and properly prepared.

(I like making raw egg nog with just the yolk and leaving out the egg white because raw egg whites can bind up your biotin. I don’t have a recipe for this, just estimate and mix. About one egg yolk per glass of milk.)

Could this explain why humans could thrive on a vegan diet in the Garden of Eden but can’t today? And why animals were given for food after the flood?

These are only theories and may not fully explain how a plant-based diet would have been adequate nutrition for a human before the fall or how much of plant biology has changed since, but it could at least be one example of how creation changed in deep, fundamental ways as a result of sin.

(Today, surviving on a vegan diet long-term requires supplementing missing nutrients and there’s too many examples of people going vegetarian or vegan and their health suffering immensly. Many people experience benefits short term, but they’re usually eating an overall much cleaner diet when they adopt vegetarianism/veganism. Don’t confuse short term benefits of cutting out low-quality, modern foods with “health benefits” of cutting out meat or animal products.)

Genesis 1:24 “And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.”

The world was a fundamentally different place before the fall, including animals and humans, but ruminants have always been part of the design.

Since there are unknowns here, I respect any Christian’s decision to take a different stance on this. But I don’t think we can underestimate the impact of what RFK wants to do with food additives, raw milk, chemicals, vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and more. We have never before seen such improvements to these issues stand a chance on the political stage. I don’t want to see that sacrificed if it is not for the opportunity to make a practical difference in the abortion issue, and I don’t see that being an option right now. In the meantime, I will celebrate RFK’s appointment for the good he wants to do.
